December Graduation Spotlight: Madison Lewis

December 10, 2023 Charis Ochu

Madison Lewis, a double major in Christian studies and strategic communications, will graduate this fall. Originally from Marble Falls, Texas, Madison joined the HSU family in the fall of 2020. She made this decision due to her love for the personal feel of the campus. “I remember liking Hardin-Simmons when I was in middle school visiting with my brother. HSU is a beautiful campus, and you really feel connected with other students, faculty, and staff,” she shared.

During her time at HSU, Madison has been an active member of the Baptist Student Ministry since her freshman year. She is also a part of a service organization called Circle K International (CKI) and was also one of the founding members of the Craft and Laughs club on campus. Furthermore, she works for the HSU Media team as a photographer and the marketing department as a student writer.

Due to Miss Lewis’ astonishing performance, she received the Altom Christian Service Award. “I was surprised because this is a huge honor given to me at chapel, and I was the first current student to receive it,” she explained. This made her realize that she had an impact on campus even though she had not known this before.

Madison loves the sense of community at HSU. Through her engagement with the BSM, she made many memories that will remain precious. “The people here are so genuine and honestly care about one another,” she shared. She enjoys crocheting, reading, writing, and photography in her free time.

Madison recognizes Emily (Garner) Davis, her boss at Visual Media, as a mentor. “This has been my longest job, so I will miss her and the team for sure.”

Her favorite Bible passage is Psalm 139, and she even decided to get this engraved on her Hardin-Simmons ring. Her advice to HSU students is “get out there. Be intentional about making connections, especially if you are introverted.” Furthermore, she advises students to feel comfortable approaching their professors and to try and get plugged in with a good church.

Congratulations Madison!
